Dear Trish,
Before we came to California I had enrolled in a writing class. At the next
session we were asked to write a poem and I chose to write the following:
MY "COMING-BACK" PLACE
A home nestled in the redwoods, so peaceful and quiet,
Where our tensions melted away, our minds were at ease.
This was the site of my birthday celebration.
Interesting shaped rooms,
A kitchen "in the round"...
A living room with slightly curved walls,
Floor-to-ceiling glass overlooking the valley below...
And opposite--a mirrored wall reflecting the beauty of nature,
As we sat on the deck in the afternoon hours
Sunlight spilled through the redwood branches,
Creating an ever-changing pattern.
A woodpecker was observing his daily schedule,
Flying to the top of the giant tree,
His "rat-a-tat-tat" the only audible intrusion.
At night, soaking in the spa, we were caressed by the silvery moonlight.
We counted the "falling stars" and were soothed by the slight rustle of
branches
High above our heads.
One evening,
I observed the reds, blues, and purples of the sunset--
First through the outer walls of glass and then
Looking into the mirrored wall, the sunset surrounded me.....
This is my "coming-back place." *

*Don Blanding was a self-described vagabond. His poetry took us to the
areas he loved best. In 1937 he wrote of 'Carmel-by-the-Sea" :

What a great stay! We celebrated our 25th Wedding Anniversary and enjoyed the weekend to its fullest. The weather was perfect for enjoying the outdoor views and all that nature has to offer. Our trip to Monterey for the day was great too, we got to play golf at Pebble Beach and have lunch in Carmel. Santa Cruz had some great beaches and views as well. We will call you next time we come to California!

Hello,
Valley View was one of the most beautiful retreats for my sister and I. We had the choice of staying at one of the 'Big Box' hotels in Santa Cruz or San Jose and decided to give your property a try instead; it was spectacular to say the least. Waking up to the calm breezes through the towering redwoods while enjoying coffee on the deck we thought we were in heaven.

Thank you for providing such a wonderful place for my wife and I to stay. It reminded us of our honeymoon over twenty years ago at a resort at the Black Forest in Germany. Quiet, peaceful and relaxing. Doris and I played backgamon and enjoyed a nice glass of California Zinfandel, it was fantastic!
